Bernard was checked over early yesterday morning by my personal vet, Dr. Ron Malo at Millersport Small Animal Hospital in Getzville, New York. He thoroughly examined Bernard & did not find any obstructions or other critical issues unless other symptoms appeared such as excessive vomiting, dehydration or severe lethargy.
He recommended a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with plain rice, quiet rest & monitoring. He felt like it was probably a bout of Colitus but should be closely monitored for the previous reasons.
One of our fantastic, sweet volunteers took him home with her for the weekend to care for him & let him recoup in a quiet place & to make sure he had his special diet. So far, he seems to be making headway and feeling a little better. She said he definitely is fond of the “bland” diet of fresh boiled chicken & rice! I’m sure to a shelter cat, REAL chicken is like caviar! He did throw up a couple of times after he ate, but since he wolfed it down, it was probably because his stomach was empty & he ate too fast.
Thanks so much to everyone who stepped up to help with vet expenses! We are all so very grateful for your kindness & generosity!
We will continue to post updates on Bernard’s progress!
