After going through all of our adoption information trying to get caught back up and organized, I realized I had gotten way behind on posting when our kitties found their forever homes over the last couple of months – Ooopss! Sorry about that…So, even though Turbo was adopted 2 months ago & this isn’t recent news to our volunteers, he still deserves his own post about finding his forever home!
Gabby has sent me a couple of updates along with lots of pictures of Turbo and his new kitty siblings, but I never posted an announcement about his official adoption, so here it is!
Back in August, Turbo – along with Janine and Danika, were fostered by one of our sweet volunteers – Anna while they were on medication and recovering from kitty colds. At the time, both Turbo & Danika were only 3 – 4 months old and tiny little balls of black fur!
Both Turbo & Danika had ended up at our location after I picked them up from an adoption event that had been held at Eastern Hills Mall one weekend around the middle of July, along with 3 other kittens the same age. At the time, we already had 2 kittens in the cat room the same age so adding 5 more to the mix was – well, insane – for lack of a better term! I referred to that time as the “Kitten Palooza”.
Along with having 7 kittens who were only 3 – 4 months old & running all over the place, getting into EVERYTHING & basically wreaking havoc anytime they were all outside of their cages, we had Jasper – who was 2 and Leo, also 2. Jasper LOVED playing with the kittens & would wrestle, chase & play with them non-stop. Leo, on the other hand was a shy boy and preferred his peace & quiet – not at all interested in playing with the babies! He would just stay out of the chaos as best as he could & lay low while all the kitties were playing.
With so many young kittens (which I will NEVER EVER do again – as cute & fun as they were!) it’s also much more likely they can transmit & come down with illnesses faster than adults. Which is exactly what happened. First Turbo & Danika and within 1-2 weeks, all the rest of the kittens came down with kitty colds too.
Anna was already fostering Janine & has 3 cats of her own but was willing to take in Turbo & Danika too (this was the beginning of August). By the time the other kittens began to show signs of getting sick, we didn’t have anyone else available to foster them so they all had to go back to the shelter to get well.
By mid-September, Anna let me know that Turbo was ready to come back but Danika was still having some eye issues so she kept her for a while longer. I picked up Turbo from Anna’s on September 3 & brought him back to the store. I couldn’t believe how big he had gotten in only 3-4 weeks! You forget how fast they grow as kittens when you haven’t had one of your own in awhile! He was almost twice the size he had been when he went to Anna’s. And had begun to really fill out – his coat was thick & glossy, his head & feet had gotten much bigger and he was just an absolute doll!
I immediately began to refer to him as “Mini Fancy Man” because he looked exactly like a smaller version of Jasper but with gold eyes instead of green. I had a feeling if he wasn’t adopted soon, I was going to fall as deeply in love with him as I had with Jasper! Not that I don’t love them all, but Jasper was a special case and had become such a part of the cat room having spent 5 months with us – but that’s another post.
Gabby contacted me about 2 weeks after Turbo came back, interested in adopting him. He went home with Gabby on the last day of September – only a few weeks after coming back to the store! Gabby & her boyfriend had 2 other kitties who were around 2-3 years old so we were all a little nervous about how they would react to Turbo.
Gabby contacted me a week later to tell me they were all getting along wonderfully & everyone was happy! A couple of weeks after that, she sent me some pictures of all the kitties playing together. I could see how much bigger Turbo had gotten just within a few weeks time. I knew he would be a big boy – he was already almost the same size as some of the adult kitties when she adopted him. But he’s not done growing! Not by a long shot!
I’m so glad Turbo found such a wonderful forever home and has 2 other kitties to play with too! Exactly what he needs and where he’s meant to be. Gabby & her boyfriend are thrilled that he is a part of their fur family and I know she will continue to keep me posted and send pictures to post!
Enjoy your new life sweet “Mini Fancy Man” Turbo – we are all so happy for you and all our love goes with you!
